Job Title: Advocate
FULL-TIME/EXEMPT
Job Summary: The Advocate serves as a vital bridge between PICA and the families it serves, building strong, respectful, and trusting relationships to identify and address individual family needs. This role supports family engagement, school readiness, community connections, and lifelong self-sufficiency—advancing PICA’s mission to empower families and promote equity and opportunity for all.
Key Task and Responsibilities:
• Develop Individualized Family Partnership Agreements (IFPAs) with families to help them set and reach goals.
• Ensure full enrollment is maintained in accordance with Head Start guidelines.
• Monitor and promote child attendance of at least 85%.
• Provide families with resources and support related to literacy, child development, and school readiness.
• Conduct regular home visits to build trust and assess family needs.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Head Start Performance Standards.
• Understand and follow Child Protection Laws and mandatory reporting requirements.
• Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures at all times.
• Collaborate with the mediator team to ensure comprehensive support for each child.
• Partner with community agencies to facilitate classes and parent lounge activities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, encouraging participation in PICA events and leadership opportunities.
• Work with the Center Team, families, and local education agencies to support smooth transitions for children from birth to age five.
• Respond to family needs in a timely and effective manner.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in PICA’s database.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work respectfully with diverse populations.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions to set and achieve family goals.
• Knowledge of community resources and how to connect families to them.
• Proficiency or willingness to learn to use Apple computers and FileMaker Pro database software.
• Good record keeping, interpersonal communication, and writing skills.
• Ability to work well with individuals from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Experience and Qualifications Required:
• High School Diploma or GED required; AA or BA in Human Services preferred.
• Experience in family advocacy, education, social work, or community services is highly desirable.
• Valid Driver’s license and vehicle insurance required
Excellent working conditions and benefit package including low cost medical insurance, paid dental/life insurance, sick/annual leave, retirement, paid holidays, and education/training opportunities. Occasional evening and weekend work.
Hourly rate: $23.69/hr.
